I make £20,000 a year but I cant find anywhere that will lend! I know I can afford at least £700 a month on payment. Anyone know of any good mortgage lenders that help first time buyers?

northern rock have always been great with us. but go to the office not over the phone or internet
Don’t approach the bank directly as you are seriously limiting your options to one bank. There are hundreds of banks with 1000’s of products. See a professional. may have some answers you are looking for.
700 of 1666 a month is 42%. NO YOU CANNOT AFFORD THIS.
Try contacting a mortgage adviser, they can tell you a little bit more about the housing market in your area etc.
We were told that with an income of £21,000 we would be able to achieve a mortgage (100%) of about 120,000 but we aren’t looking to buy for a while yet. If you ring one, they will generally give you some quick advise for free over the phone
You need to go see an independent mortgage broker, they have access to more lenders and products, just bear in mind that just because you think you can afford £700 a month doesnt mean thats what you will be offered, it all goes off your interest rate and type of mortgage. A good mortgage broker wont charge you a fee for advice either so you have nothing to loose.
